Hospital Employees Among the Most Likely to Miss Work

Are hospital employees in danger? According to the National Safety Council (NSC), hospitals pose significantly more dangers than the average work environment; in fact, hospital staff members are 41% more likely to miss days — or even weeks — of work owing to occupational illnesses and injuries. What are the most likely hazards, and what can employers do about them?

Hazard #1: Electrical Hazards

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) warns hospital supervisors and managers that employees face threats of electrical fires, shock, and even explosions. “Damaged electrical cords can lead to possible shocks or electrocutions. A flexible electrical cord may be damaged by door or window edges, by staples and fastenings, by equipment rolling over it, or simply by aging,” OSHA explains
